PROJECT OVERVIEW
PMDD Pal was created as part of my capstone research project, which focused on individuals who have been diagnosed with or are seeking a diagnosis for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD).
PROJECT GOAL
My goal is to address the challenges associated with obtaining a diagnosis and managing PMDD by creating a user-centric mobile app, PMDD Pal. PMDD Pal addresses the challenges associated with obtaining a PMDD diagnosis and managing symptoms by providing symptom tracking, cycle tracking, educational information, and community support.
PROCESS
I conducted quantitative and qualitative research on the experiences of those affected by PMDD and their struggles. I chose to design a symptom tracking app because the main concern of those dealing with PMDD was how hard it is to consistently track all of their symptoms and experiences. I made the brand identity feminine since the target audience is girls and women.
OUTCOME
Designed to empower users through education, self-awareness, and community support, PMDD Pal provides a set of tools to help users obtain a diagnosis, understand, and manage PMDD. The app includes a symptom tracker for logging daily symptoms and identifying patterns, alongside a cycle tracker that predicts upcoming menstrual cycles to prepare for hormone fluctuations. Beyond tracking, PMDD Pal provides educational lessons about PMDD, menstrual health, and coping mechanisms, equipping users with the knowledge to proactively manage their condition. Its social interaction functionality allows for users to connect, share experiences, and offer mutual support, reducing feelings of isolation. PMDD Pal serves not just as an app, but as a companion, supporting users through the challenges of PMDD with essential tools and access to a supportive community.
